They enjoy a strong reputation for quality and have a tremendous impact on rural economies. With origin products, consumers find diversity and a variety of choices while their purchases help preserve local traditions and cultural heritage. In many cases they enjoy thriving export trade with room to grow. But they have been caught up in international trade negotiations and intellectual property debates that have hindered their development.
